IEM-Alliance Of River Three | GREduAction! | @ Mid Valley River Three SDG Park Program

March 3 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am AEDT

The river flows through Klang Valley, with a population of over 4 million people today. Because of this, it has become heavily polluted. The pollution comes from both the people and the industries. The pollution in rivers poses a risk to human health and biodiversity, disrupts the ecosystem and leads to the economic loss of the area. The watercourse has a deep and long history meandering close to 120 kilometres through the river basin in Malaysia. Back in the 1820s, the river was the most effective means of transportation, described as ‘the highway through the jungle’ by historian John Michael Gullick. Today, the river is a source of water supply. The water from the Klang Gates Dam is sent to a treatment plant, producing 145 million litres of clean water every day.

On the 3rd of March 2023, The Institution of Engineers Malaysia (Standing Committee of Welfare & Member Services and Young Engineers Section) is poised to spearhead a transformative CSR initiative, hosted by the Alliance Of River Three at the Mid Valley River Three SDG Park. This event stands as a testament to the collaborative spirit and commitment to sustainability, inviting community members and engineering professionals to come together in a robust day of environmental stewardship. Participants will engage in a series of restorative activities, including the removal of litter to foster cleaner waterways, the construction of trails that will serve as conduits for nature walks and environmental education, and the replanting of indigenous flora to rehabilitate and enrich soil in areas that have suffered degradation. This hands-on initiative not only aims to rejuvenate the park’s natural beauty and ecosystem but also to inspire and galvanize the community around the importance of sustainable living and proactive environmental management.
