Imagining a Sustainable Future and Realizing Potentials in Engineering Education: An Online Future Workshop

March 4 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm UTC+1

Free

Africa has a youth population, and countries with strong and ambitious agendas, policies, and programmes to accelerate their transition to a low carbon economy, by taking advantage of diverse and natural sources of clean energy. It will be up to these young women and men to lead the continent’s socio-technological transitions.
The future is uncharted territory for future professional engineers, but one thing is known and certain: They must be educated and prepared with skillset and mindset to engage and perform in the socio-technological transitions towards low-carbon economies, fair and equal societies. It is not an easy task for engineering educators and institutions to change their structures, practices, and role, aligning them with sustainability principles and education. It is time to envision pathways on how to educate engineers for sustainable development. To address such demands, this online workshop, organized in the format of Future-Workshop, invites participants to share and critically reflect on their current experiences and work collaboratively to co-create possible solutions to innovate the current practices.
Aims:
• Identify challenges, formulate problems and co-design solutions designing solutions to educate engineers for sustainability.
• Reflect on the potentials and constraints in collaborative engagement in identifying challenges and co-designing solutions to educate engineers for sustainability.
