3. About EBEC
EBEC (Empowered BEST Engineering Competition) is an engineering competition organized by BEST, that attracts engineering students for over 10 years, previously known as European BEST Engineering Competition. Its main objectives are:
Testing participants’ ability to apply their engineering knowledge to solve real problems/challenges within a limited time frame;
Providing an environment that eases contact between students and companies and making it appealing to both;
Encouraging the personal and intellectual development of students by exposing them to a competition where teamwork is paramount.
4. EBEC Porto’24
At EBEC Porto 2024, we challenge 240 students across all fields of science to develop a team project. Participants can choose between two categories: Case Study and Innovative Design.
This year, EBEC will take place in February, from the 24th to the 26th and will last for 24 consecutive hours.
For several years, EBEC Porto has been credited by FEUP, with participants receiving recognition of 1.5 ECTS upon successful completion of the competition. This accreditation reflects the prestige acknowledged by the University of Porto’s rectorate for this event. Additionally, we are being supported by a very considerate number of companies, as you can see in our website, listed below. Winners will be awarded prizes to congratulate them on their big victory.
Innovative Design: A practical test that involves building a functional prototype with limited and low-cost materials to address a problem presented by the company. In the end, the team must present the developed prototype for the proposed problem to a panel of judges.
Case study: A challenge where participants will analyze two real problems from companies based on the information provided to them. Teams must submit their solutions in the form of a report and later present them to a panel of judges.
6. 2024 edition
This year, we are very proud to be teaming up with the Comissary for Sustainability of our faculty, FEUP. We look forward to provide sustainable solutions to our planet in order to fight against climate change. Additionally, and as mentioned before, it’s an honor to have a big wide range of companies colaborating with us. This event wouldn’t be possible without them, as well as all our media partners.
